Play with reality
People often perceive St. Petersburg as gloomy, grayish city, but actually - it is full of color and mystery.
During my walks in the mazes of old backyards of St. Petersburg I have discovered beauty of the texture of an old walls, peeling layers of paint and interesting abstract forms in opaque, muted colors.
I like to search for extraordinary in the ordinary, the sense of mystery. The right places are grungy old courtyards of the city, its dark corners, dilapidated buildings, high fire-resistant walls without windows. Here you can find unusual interactions of textures, detailed color schemes, plasticity of trees and walls of buildings.
Close look through the viewfinder allows me to play with ordinary reality and to visually convey my findings, feelings of comfort and beauty.
The wall of the backyard in the image above looks like an old painting of a Chinese landscape in muted color scheme.
The crackling of the paint evokes the resemblance with flying birds in cloudy sky.
Sometimes the trees and branches almost have the same color as the wall. They blend in so well together. The different layers of the light brown over the blue with sunlight touch on the branches create the feeling of quietness.
This image has clear graphic appeal to me. It seems like the two smaller trees are bowing down to the bigger tree and the interplay between them is funny.
There is lonely tree is with bird feeder hanging from it. Its limited color palette and grungy wall stresses the feeling of abandonment.
Who said that trees could not talk, hug or even dance?

This image with its golden sunlight, shadows, blooming sprouts evokes in me the sense of relief and hope.
